Partner Mirror Challenge
Duration40 mins
Grade Level3–4, 5–6, 7–10
Learning Objectives
Students will develop balance, coordination, observation, and partner communication by leading and mirroring balance poses in real time using Balance It cards.
Materials Needed
Balance It app or printed balance cards
Open space for partner work
Timer or stopwatch
Optional: Music for engagement
Instructions
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Begin with dynamic stretches focusing on balance preparation — single-leg stands, arm reaches, and gentle lunges.
Mirror Activity (20 minutes)
Pair students up and designate one as the Leader and the other as the Mirror.
The Leader selects a balance pose from the Balance It app and performs it.
The Mirror must observe carefully and replicate the pose as accurately as possible — like a reflection.
Hold each pose for 10–15 seconds. The Leader then transitions slowly to the next pose.
After 5 poses, partners switch roles.
Encourage Leaders to transition smoothly between poses to challenge their Mirror partner.
Challenge Round (10 minutes)
Pairs combine into groups of four.
One pair leads a sequence of 3 poses while the other pair mirrors simultaneously.
Groups vote on the most synchronised pair.
Cool Down and Reflection (5 minutes)
Lead calming stretches and discuss:
What made mirroring difficult?
How did you communicate without words?
Which poses were hardest to replicate?
Assessment
Observe students’ ability to accurately replicate poses, maintain balance during transitions, and communicate non-verbally with their partner. Note improvements in body awareness, spatial understanding, and cooperative skills throughout the activity.
Extension Activities
Try mirroring with eyes closed (the Mirror relies on verbal cues only)
Increase the speed of transitions between poses
Create a synchronised routine of 5 poses to perform for the class
Add movement between poses (e.g., three steps forward then balance)
