Memory Game

Duration30 mins
Grade Level3–4, 5–6, 7–10

Learning Objectives

Students will develop balance, coordination, and teamwork skills while enhancing their memory and observational abilities through engaging, movement-based activities using the Balance It app.

Materials Needed

Balance It app or printed balance cards Space for group movement Optional: Music for engagement

Instructions

Begin with a warm-up to prepare students for movement. Display a balance from the Balance It app for a set observation time (e.g., 30 seconds), then remove it from view. Students work in small groups to recreate the balance from memory, assisting and encouraging one another. After students attempt the balance, reveal the original image again for comparison. Repeat the process with different balances, gradually increasing difficulty if appropriate. Optional: Play music to create an engaging and fun atmosphere. Conclude with a cool-down session incorporating stretches like forward bends, quad stretches, and shoulder stretches. Facilitate a group discussion about the experience, encouraging students to share which balances were most challenging and enjoyable. Discuss the role of memory and observation in learning new physical skills.

Assessment

Observe students as they recreate the balances, offering feedback as needed. Assess their ability to recall and replicate positions accurately, as well as their engagement in teamwork and discussion.

Extension Activities

Encourage students to design their own balance challenges, modify poses (e.g., eyes closed, extended hold times), or incorporate storytelling, music, or fitness variations.
