Balance Tag
Duration40 mins
Grade LevelF–2, 3–4, 5–6, 7–10
Learning Objectives
Students will develop balance, agility, spatial awareness, and quick decision-making by combining a classic tag game with Balance It balance holds.
Materials Needed
Balance It app or printed balance cards
Cones to mark the playing area
Coloured bibs or bands for taggers
Timer or stopwatch
Optional: Upbeat music
Instructions
Warm-Up (5 minutes)
Dynamic warm-up with jogging, side shuffles, and quick-reaction games (e.g., “Simon Says” with movement).
Balance Tag Game (20 minutes)
Define a clear playing area using cones.
Select 2–3 students as Taggers (wearing bibs).
Display 4–5 balance poses from the Balance It app around the playing area (on screens or printed cards at stations).
When a student is tagged, they must move to the nearest Balance Station and hold the displayed pose for 10 seconds before re-entering the game.
If a student performs the balance pose perfectly (teacher’s judgement), they re-enter immediately.
Rotate taggers every 3–4 minutes.
Variation: Freeze Balance (10 minutes)
When the teacher calls “Freeze!”, all students must immediately perform any Balance It pose.
The last student to get into a balanced position becomes the next tagger.
Students who wobble or fall out of their pose also become taggers for the next round.
Cool Down and Reflection (5 minutes)
Gentle stretching and discussion:
Which balance poses were easiest to get into quickly?
How did you balance speed with control?
What strategies did you use to avoid being tagged?
Assessment
Observe students’ ability to transition quickly from movement to balance holds, maintain pose accuracy under pressure, and demonstrate fair play. Assess spatial awareness, agility, and engagement throughout the game.
Extension Activities
Increase the number of taggers for more challenge
Require partner balances instead of individual poses when tagged
Add a point system — earn points for holding poses without wobbling
Allow tagged students to choose their own pose from the app
